November 21, 2009 marks the opening of the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center’s new multi-million dollar,
12,000 square foot renovation, Restless Planet: A journey across the planet that brings you closer to home.
Through two paths over land and water, you’ll be immersed in four diverse habitats like those that once
thrived in Virginia, and now exist in more remote parts of the planet. It’s an amazing journey populated
by 6,000 new animals, including komodo dragons, exotic cobras, and adorable hedgehogs – just a few of the
367 species new to the Aquarium. Housed in some incredible environments, these rare and unpredictable creatures
have much to teach us about the planet we share.
