Why we live the life in Virginia Beach

It’s a simple answer, really. Virginia Beach offers so much to explore that it’s hard to fit it all into one vacation. In fact, you almost need to live here to experience everything. To help you prioritize your time, we’ve divided the beach into the areas below, with some information and fun things to do in each. Whether it’s touring along the boardwalk in the Resort Area, catching crabs in Chesapeake Beach, or finding the perfect ensemble while shopping in Town Center, the diverse regions within Virginia Beach have something for everyone.

Resort Area

A tourist’s favorite, our three-mile boardwalk is only part of what makes the Resort Area so irresistible. From Croatan Beach to the south up to the North End beaches, this is where Virginia Beach reveals its outgoing nature, local restaurants, unique shops and all-around beach vibe, all wrapped up in a park-like atmosphere that goes on for miles.

Sandbridge / Pungo

Located 15 miles south of the Resort Area, Sandbridge is a secluded beach hideaway of 5 miles of pristine sand dunes and dancing sea oats, where vacationers and locals alike come to live the life in a beach hideaway. It’s a relaxing and peaceful community, home to the marshes and open waters of Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge and False Cape State Park, perfect for kayaking, hiking, and fishing.

Chesapeake Bay Area (Chick’s Beach)

For beachgoers seeking refuge from the surf of the Atlantic, tranquility can be found along the calm waters of the Chesapeake Bay, just off Shore Drive. From swimming to sand castles, all the traditional beach rituals are here.

Town Center

Home to an eclectic mix of dining, shopping and entertainment, Town Center is quickly becoming the central hotspot in Virginia Beach. From local live music in Town Center’s many nightspots to world-renowned entertainment at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, you’ll get all the glamour of a big city adventure wrapped up in small town charm. Town Center also features luxurious accommodations just footsteps away from an endless shopping experience.

Great Neck

A fisherman’s paradise, Great Neck is a safe harbor to many vessels poised and ready to catch their bounty. Connected to the Chesapeake Bay, it’s a quick ride to Virginia Beach’s richest fishing grounds.

Little Neck

Little Neck is the perfect mix of the great outdoors and great history. Cozied up to the Lynnhaven River, this area is perfect for kayaking excursions and other aquatic activities. It’s also home to the Lynnhaven House, built in 1725.

Hilltop

If shopping is in your travel plans, Hilltop should be on the top of your list of destinations. Home to a variety of shopping centers covering a full spectrum of tastes, this shopper’s haven won’t leave you empty-handed.

Lynnhaven

A stone’s throw from Oceana Naval Air Station, Lynnhaven is a favorite locals destination for Virginia Beach families. With a great mix of shopping and restaurants at Lynnhaven Mall and the kid-friendly Hunt Club Farm right up the road, it truly has something for everyone.

Centerville / Kempsville

Home to the Regent University Theatre, Kempsville is the perfect place for locals to catch dinner and a performance. To unwind after the perfect day of entertainment, many seek pampering at the calming Founder’s Inn and spa. So just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Bayside

Walk in the footsteps of history with a visit to the Adam Thoroughgood house. Built in 1680, the house is one of the oldest housed from the early Colonial period. If you’d rather make your own history on the links, Cypress Point Golf Club is right down the middle.
